About the Centre

Leeds has a long and distinguished history in spinal cord injury research, spanning neuroscience, engineering, rehabilitation, and clinical science. For many years, world-class work in this field took place across multiple departments and facilities, often through individual projects and collaborations.

In 2024, the Leeds Centre for Spinal Cord Injury Research was established to unite these strengths under one coordinated framework. The Centre brings together researchers, clinicians, engineers, and industry partners, creating a connected environment where expertise and ideas flow easily between disciplines.

Our goal is to make collaboration seamless — ensuring that every stage of spinal cord injury research, from fundamental discovery to clinical translation and commercialisation, can happen here in Leeds. By connecting people, capabilities, and infrastructure, the Centre provides a platform for innovation that accelerates progress towards recovery and a cure.
